I am sorry to inform you that games are cancelled tonight. Fields 2 & 3 are just mud and puddles. So let’s all head to the bar to play the game that really matters… Flip Cup. Next week we will play games listed as week 2 (5/9). The week 1 games will be moved to our rainout makeup week.

Adopt A Sailor 2011 As many of you know, last summer we received an offer to sell Ravenswood Pub. After much deliberation and thought, we decided to accept the offer. A transaction of this type typically takes 90-120 days, but for various reasons this one dragged on and on. Last week, just before Thanksgiving we received the final word that the deal was not going to happen. Our presumption during this process was that we would no longer be the owners of Ravenswood Pub during Christmas, thus we would not be able to do our annual Adopt A Sailor program this year. Obviously, circumstances have changed and due to the encouragement of you, our neighbor’s and customers, we have decided to charge forward and for the 11th year, accept as many of the Navy Recruits from Great Lakes as they will send us. Typically we begin planning for this event in mid-October. Here we are, just as December is arriving, and we are starting today. This puts us way behind our normal schedule and will require some adjustments to our typical activities. 1. Tickets are being printed today and will be available tonight, Friday, December 2. We will need a tremendous amount of help selling tickets this year due to the shortened time frame. As usual, tickets will be $5.00 each, or a book of 5 for $20.00. If you are able to help us by picking up some tickets and selling them to co-workers, friends, family we would be enormously appreciative. 2. Because we realize that each of you have many responsibilities and commitments during the month of December, ie. . work parties, holiday gatherings, etc. . . we have decided to have the fundraising raffle party on Saturday, January 14. This should alleviate some of the pressure to collect raffle prizes during this hectic month. This will also allow us to share with you the wonderful experience this year’s sailor’s had and share with you their thanks and gratitude. 3. Even though the raffle will not be held until after Christmas, human nature indicates that ticket sales will be best prior to Christmas. It is our hope that in the next 3 weeks we can have the largest ticket sale surge so that we can provide our Sailors with the usual wonderful Christmas that we strive for each year. 4. If you are able to assist in any way, from selling tickets, to prepping food for the sailors, to contacting or collecting raffle prizes from neighborhood business, please let us know. We’re looking for a lot of help this year due to our shortened time frames. As we enter this holiday season, I’m reminded of some words my 10 year old daughter shared with me a few months ago. At that time, she knew that it was unlikely that the sailors would be coming this year and asked what they would be doing, since they wouldn’t be coming to Ravenswood Pub. (She has spent every Christmas of her life with the sailors) When I explained that hopefully, some other people would be willing to host them, she then said, “but how will I be able to thank them, for all they do for us?” We’re all grateful, to have another chance.
